"Get away from me, what are you doing?!" Sam hissed as he move to the side slightly and shoved Barty away from him. How was he supposed to be undercover when Barty was here, talking to him like that. "You're going to blow my cover. Get out of here."
Sam yanked himself away from Barty and then checked where the boss has gone, hoping he didn't notice it. Even him being connected to Barty would look bad, nevermind being exposed as a cop. "I can't know you. Idiot."
"I own this place, I can talk to my clients. Especially the ones that are sucking up to some wannabe crime boss in the VIP lounge." Which Sam had been doing, extensively. "There's only two options, Sam, either he is weirded out by you or he thinks you are coming on to him. Either way, he knows you are a cop. You are the most cop to ever cop. The whitest of hats. It's obvious."
He kept his voice down, but he was trying to get through to Sam here. "Trust me."
"Trust you? You're having a laugh." Trust him? After all he had done to him. Sam let out a cruel laugh and shook his head. "You're unbelievable. I don't trust you. Why would I? You're the biggest liar I've ever met." And as far as he was concerned, Barty's instincts were wrong. He had the guy, he was just on the verge of getting through to him. He was offering to take Sam with him - he was golden.
"How many fucking times, Barty? Get out of my life." He just wanted Barty to leave him alone. In all things, including work and pleasure.
"Maybe I am the biggest liar you've ever met. I'm also the best. I can tell you that you're a lousy liar and I can tell when a plot isn't working." Barty knew how stubborn Sam was, he already knew he wouldn't actually be able to convince him otherwise. Perhaps the choice of the words 'trust me' had been a dumb one, he regretted that. Still, he knew that he was right.
"I can help you take that bastard out. I want to end him same as you do. I'll even do it legally. But stop this game. It's too risky." And he worried for Sam's safety.
"And listen to you? You're joking. Listen to me and take it on board this time - I'm not working with you. Not like that. You worked with the police at the club, not me. That's where it ends. Our professional relationship is discontinued." And they didn't have a personal one. He didn't want Barty to be here when the guy came back out, he didn't want to lose all the progress he had.
"I'll take him down. You'll stay out of my way. Off you go." He turned away from Barty and knocked back the rest of his pint before getting to his feet. Fine, time to improvise.
So he walked away from Barty and yes, he went to the towards the bathroom. Well, maybe Sam could talk him into hurrying this all along.
