"Fast." Sam eyed up Giacomo is annoyance, wondering if he had actually liked him. It was hard to tell. Up until he was 13, he had never seen him give any signs of life. It was only the past couple of years and exclusively around Barty that he saw that Giacomo had something going on in his head. What it was, he had no idea.
As Barty ripped the tape, Sam yelped out in pain and staggered free from the goal post with a pout on his face. "That hurt! And I'm freezing! God sake, what is wrong with people?"
Barty drew Sam in for a hug, rubbing his back in an effort to warm him. If he hadn't already given his jacket to Giac, he'd offer it to Sam now. That's what he got for surrounding himself with two scrawny boys. "Let's get you inside. Hot shower."
Probably the smartest idea, to prevent him from getting sick and so he could warm up properly. "You should consider one too, Giac. If you catch a cold, I'm not taking you with me."
Giacomo's colds were never harmless. He wasn't risking that.
Giacomo shook his head. He was feeling fine today, he had been sick most of October and November so he was feeling like the worst was over and he was unstoppable now. He was recovered. He unzipped his jacket as he walked and took it off, holding it out for Sam to take. Which totally threw Sam off.
"Uh, no way. Mate, keep it." He had also seen Giacomo sick and there was no way in hell he wanted to be the cause of it. "I'm fine. Hot shower is better."
"It's my jacket, Sam. You should put it on." Because clearly that made it better, it being his jacket. Whatever, they were almost inside now anyway. And he did like Sam wearing his jacket, he couldn't deny that. He liked when it smelled a bit like Sam. A lot more appealing than Giac wearing it, anyway. "What else is on your schedule today, Sam? Other than dinner."
Which he felt he should serve Sam in bed so he could avoid those bullies a little longer.
"I don't know, sleep." Sam said as he took the jacket from Giac and shrugged it on. It felt weird to wear another guys coat but it also felt weird to wear shorts outside in winter. He sniffed a little and then considered what he had planned. "Study then sleep. I'm utterly knackered."
Barty probably knew about that because Sam slept very poorly last night. It happened sometimes, he was a restless sort of sleeper.
"We can leave my lamp on. I don't really mind. I want to do some reading anyway." Barty's voice was very neutral as he suggested it, concerned over Sam getting enough sleep. He felt Giacomo giving him a look, either out of amusement or judgement or both, so he glanced at his brother. "Oh, shut up about it. Grow up."
He cared about Sam. He wasn't really trying to keep that a secret, he was just trying to be mature about it and not desperate.
Giacomo pulled a face at them and then shook his head, turning off in the other direction down the hall without so much as a goodbye. Seemed about right.
"Bye." Sam said mostly passive aggressively as he watched the other twin leave. "Hard to believe he has a girlfriend, given his lack of basic manners." Well, some people seemed to manage pulling, even at their lowest. So what did he know? "But thanks, I'm fine. I was just having an off night. Think my brain was too active." And it was pretty embarrassing so he didn't want to discuss it more. "I'm going to go shower, you don't have to come. I assume you were doing something before Giac."
"He's just extremely good-looking, I reckon." That was quite the choice thing to say about one's identical twin, which explained Barty's cheeky grin as he put forth that theory. "People find it very hard to resist. I don't know if you are just immune to it or what..."
Barty shrugged his shoulders, then reached out to put a hand on Sam's shoulder, giving it a light squeeze. "I'll see you after your shower."
